THE MAASAI FAMILY TRIBE

The Maasai people are a Nilotic ethnic group inhabiting parts of Kenya and Tanzania, particularly the regions near the Great Rift Valley. They are known for their distinctive culture, rich traditions, and semi-nomadic pastoral lifestyle centered around cattle herding.

The Maasai have a hierarchical social structure with the family as the central unit. The family tribe, or “enkang oo-nkiri” in the Maasai language, consists of an extended family living together in a homestead called a Manyatta. A Manyatta typically consists of several houses made from a combination of mud, sticks, grass, and cow dung. Each house belongs to a specific family within the tribe, and the Manyatta is surrounded by a thornbush fence to protect the livestock from predators.

• Lunch may be replaced by picnic depending on the program and flight times 
• All games drives take place in land cruisers on a shared basis (unless mentioned otherwise) with experienced drivers (guaranteed window seats) 
• There are no age restrictions at the camp 
• For the domestic flights the total baggage allowance per passenger (inclusive of hand baggage and cameras) is 15kgs in soft bags 
• The domestic flights require the passenger names on the ticket exactly match the passport used to travel. Please make sure to check all names carefully upon reservation. 
• The routing of the domestic flight may include 1 or more stops at different airstrips 
• The last flight to the Mara North Airstrip departs at 15h. Therefore, we strongly recommend booking international flights arriving early morning in Nairobi International Airport. If needed a prenight hotel in Nairobi can be arranged (price on demand)
