THE MAASAI FAMILY TRIBE
The Maasai people are a Nilotic ethnic group inhabiting parts of Kenya and Tanzania, particularly the regions near the Great Rift Valley. They are known for their distinctive culture, rich traditions, and semi-nomadic pastoral lifestyle centered around cattle herding.
The Maasai have a hierarchical social structure with the family as the central unit. The family tribe, or “enkang oo-nkiri” in the Maasai language, consists of an extended family living together in a homestead called a Manyatta. A Manyatta typically consists of several houses made from a combination of mud, sticks, grass, and cow dung. Each house belongs to a specific family within the tribe, and the Manyatta is surrounded by a thornbush fence to protect the livestock from predators.

GOOD TO KNOWÂ
Jambo! The driver is waiting upon your arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Nairobi to bring you and your family to the Nairobi Wilson Airport (which takes about 45 minutes). You board a beautiful 1-hour flight to the Mara North Conservancy, the northern half of the Serengeti-Masai Mara ecosystem. Landed at the Mara North Airstrip, you receive a warm African welcome: a wonderful bush welcome drink. Then it’s time for your transfer to the Neptune Mara Rianta Luxury Camp (which takes approximately 30 minutes) where the Maasai are waiting to perform their traditional song and dance for you. A great moment for your first family pictures! After the check-in and camp briefing, you have lunch and some free time to enjoy the facilities of the camp, overlooking the Mara River (don’t miss our hippo pool!). Your personal butler is on call 24/7 to assist with any inquiries you may have during your stay at the camp. Late afternoon your family adventure starts! You go on a private game drive in the Mara North Conservancy, part of the world’s greatest wildlife sanctuaries. Keep your camera and binoculars close! The advantage of a private safari is that you only need to take your own wishes (and off course those of your family) into account. During a fine dinner at the camp you can discuss the different spotted species of game and dream of the ones to come during your overnight in your luxury tent.Â
This morning after breakfast you leave for a full day private game drive in the Mara North Conservancy. Our guides know the area like nobody else and do their utmost to trace the game for you. (With a bit of luck you can tick off lion, zebra, giraffe, gazelle, elephant, leopard, buffalo, and cheetah from your wildlife checklist). In the Mara North Conservancy off-road driving is allowed for a short period of time when there is interesting game in the area. Ideal for making the most spectacular photos! At noon you enjoy some family quality time during a bush picnic, a truly amazing experience. You return at the camp late afternoon. The rest of the day is spent at leisure. A Maasai guides you to the restaurant to enjoy a lovely dinner and back to your luxury tent for your last overnight.Â
After a delicious breakfast prepare yourself for another exiting experience: a private family adventure bush walk! Follow the footsteps of ancient explorers and use all your senses while you discover the nature on foot. The expert ranger is more than happy to share his experience with you. Depending on your flight time, you enjoy your last lunch at the camp before your transfer back to the Mara North Airstrip. A stunning 2,5-hour flight brings you to the Ukunda Airstrip. The driver is waiting to bring you to the Neptune Palm Beach Boutique Resort & Spa (an 8 km drive), ideally situated at the beautiful Diani Beach. The start of your family beach holiday. You stay on all-inclusive basis in a Deluxe Garden Room.Â
Enjoy your family time at the Neptune Palm Beach Boutique Resort & Spa.
Time to return home with a suitcase full of unforgettable African memories. A transfer is foreseen to bring you to the Moi International Airport of Mombasa (approximately 2-hour drive).Â
