SUN CITY & PILANESBERG

SUN CITY & PILANESBERG
8 days / 7 nights

Sun City and Pilanesberg are two popular tourist destinations located in the North West Province of South Africa. They are often visited together as they are in close proximity to each other and offer a diverse range of experiences.

  1. Sun City: Sun City is a luxury resort complex that offers a mix of entertainment, relaxation, and outdoor activities. It was developed by the hotel magnate Sol Kerzner and officially opened in 1979. The resort is known for its opulent hotels, casinos, golf courses, water parks, and a wide array of entertainment options. Some of the key attractions at Sun City include:
    • The Palace of the Lost City: A lavish hotel designed with a distinct African-inspired theme. It features stunning architecture, lush gardens, and opulent interiors.
      • Valley of Waves: A water park with artificial beaches, water slides, and a large wave pool, creating a tropical oasis in the heart of the African bush.
      • Golf Courses: Sun City boasts two championship golf courses designed by Gary Player. These courses have hosted major golf tournaments over the years.
      • Entertainment: The resort offers various shows, performances, and live music events, making it a hub of nightlife and entertainment.
    • Pilanesberg National Park: Pilanesberg National Park is a wildlife reserve located adjacent to Sun City. It’s situated within the remnants of a volcanic crater and is home to a diverse range of animals and bird species. The park was established in 1979 and has since become a popular safari destination for both local and international visitors. Some highlights of Pilanesberg include:
      • Big Five: The park is home to Africa’s “Big Five” – lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, and rhinos. Visitors have a good chance of spotting these iconic animals during game drives.
        • Game Drives: The park offers guided game drives in open safari vehicles, allowing visitors to get up close to wildlife and experience the natural beauty of the African bush.
        • Balloon Safaris: Hot air balloon safaris provide a unique perspective of the park’s landscapes and wildlife from above.
        • Accommodation: There are various lodges and camps within and around the park, offering different levels of comfort and immersion in the wilderness.
    • The combination of Sun City’s luxury and entertainment with Pilanesberg’s wildlife and natural beauty makes for a well-rounded South African getaway. Tourists often enjoy the contrast between the vibrant resort atmosphere of Sun City and the serene, untamed landscapes of Pilanesberg National Park.

The dam is the largest body of water in the reserve, providing the perfect location to spot a wide variety of animals such as water buck, zebra and impala.
