A full-day excursion combining Nairobi National Park, the Nairobi Orphanage, and the Giraffe Center would offer a fantastic opportunity to explore Kenya’s wildlife and conservation efforts. Here’s what you can expect from such an excursion:
Nairobi National Park is a unique wildlife conservation area located in Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. It holds the distinction of being the only national park in the world situated within a capital city’s boundaries. The park covers an area of approximately 117 square kilometers (45 square miles) and is located just a few kilometers south of the city center, making it easily accessible to visitors.
Established in 1946, Nairobi National Park serves as a crucial sanctuary for a diverse range of wildlife, offering them a protected habitat amidst the urban landscape. The park’s ecosystem comprises open grass plains, scattered acacia bushes, riverine forests along the Nairobi River, and a man-made dam called the Hippo Pool. These varied habitats support a rich array of flora and fauna.
The park is renowned for its population of large mammals, including lions, leopards, Cape buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, and wildebeests. It is also home to several species of herbivores, such as elands, impalas, gazelles, and waterbucks. More than 400 species of birds have been recorded in the park, making it a paradise for birdwatchers.
Visiting the Nairobi Orphanage – https://www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/faqs#visiting
We open our doors to the public for one hour every day. This is a special, time-honored tradition in which we invite the public to learn more about our conservation work and meet the orphans in our care. Those wishing to visit need to make a booking in advance, to ensure there is availability.
Visiting The Giraffe Centre- https://www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/
Visiting The Giraffe Centre is the creation of the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (A.F.E.W. Kenya), a Kenyan non-profit organization. Our main purpose is to educate Kenyan school children and youth on their country’s wildlife and environment, as well as give local and international visitors an opportunity to come into close contact with the world’s tallest species.
