Mikumi National Park, situated in southern Tanzania, is a hidden gem known for its accessibility and rich biodiversity. As the country’s fourth largest national park, Mikumi features a diverse array of wildlife, including lions, elephants, giraffes, and numerous bird species, set against the backdrop of rolling hills and the scenic Mkata River. The park’s proximity to Dar es Salaam makes it an easily reachable destination, offering a more intimate and less crowded safari experience compared to some of Tanzania’s more famous parks. Visitors can enjoy game drives, birdwatching, and guided walks, making Mikumi a captivating addition to Tanzania’s southern circuit of natural wonders.
Depart from Dar es Salaam city centre to Mikumi National Park (about 4 ½ hours). Lunch at Vuma Hill Tented Camp, followed by an afternoon game drive. Mikumi National Park is well known for its population of elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, elands, greater Kudu, wildebeest, roan and sable antelope. Predators include tree-climbing lions, leopards, wild hunting dogs and black-backed jackal.
Dinner and overnight at Vuma Hill Tented Camp or similar
After breakfast, enjoy another game drive. Return to the camp for lunch and then depart for your return to Dar es Salaam.
Drop off in the city centre.
